Artists who turned up for the first Save Uganda Music meeting
20 OCT 2017 10:05 AM
It was the first event that saw artists attend in such large numbers, they were over 50 that responded to the Save UG Music campaign.
Interestingly, most of them had shades in a not well lit environment, so that number could even be higher. Honorable Robert Kyagulanyi had a hectic day yesterday, but he took time off to attend. He started off with court where he was suing Government for causing him a financial loss of over Ugx 300Mn in banned confirmed concerts. He then went to Kibuli CID headquarters to make a statement for inciting violence, straight out of Kibuli, he stormed Laftaz in his black Tundra 4x4 pickup.
The honorable member who was donning his black suit arrived late and asked to be forgiven citing his busy schedule. He later joined other anti age limit legislators in the 'Togikwatako' drive.
Juliana Kanyomozi was in attendance. Clad in a red top and black hat completed with round sunglasses, the Wakajanja singer was in the company of her cousin, Eddie Kim, but she did not stay for long. She was nominated to be on the managerial team, but she declined.
Cindy also attended and expressed her dissatisfaction with Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS). The Run This City singer recalled of a time when she tried uploading her own video on YouTube and she was informed that it was not possible as her video was owned by another party other than her, she wondered who was behind this.
Moze Radio used the platform to denounce any working relationship with UPRS if at all there was any. He did not allow Eddy Sendi who was trying to explain how UPRS works or how the artists stand to benefit from it. He grabbed the mic from him saying enough was enough, the old timers should not be planning for the young. He was so bitter that he first grabbed Sendi's water bottle, walked a bit and then dropped it on the floor, luckily, it was a plastic bottle, otherwise it would have been a different story by now.
In an ungovernable manner, Moze Radio who was clad in a military fatigue pant and boots introduced himself as; Moze Radio, Sekibogo, Nakitinje, Marshal, Warrior etc..I denounce belonging or even entrusting my music to UPRS..
There was also a petition that was being signed by artists and other stake-holders to intervene in the issue of UPRS and the artists, in fact, they added that Hon. Kyagulanyi spear-heads a private members' bill to this effect.
Other artists in attendance were;
Mulwanya Michael aka King Michael, he was also very bitter citing an incident when his 'Muko Muko' hit was being played at an intro, and it was stopped just because the DJ's had not subscribed to the body.
Weasel, Ykee Benda, Big Eye, Allan Toniks, Maro, King Saha, Dr. Hilderman, Rena, Irene Ntale, Vampino, Lydia Jasmine, Sophie Gombya, Stecia Mayanja, Mesach Semakula, Geoffrey Luataya, Topic Kasente, Tipswizy, Apass, Van Data, Nubian Lee, Minah Izah, Lil Pazo, KS Alpha, David Lutalo and Ragga Dee to mention, but a few.
