Miss World Africa Quiin Abenakyo

Quiin attends her first official event as Miss World Africa

Our very own Quiin Abenakyo who won the title of Miss World Africa at the just concluded Miss World competition was attending the official coronation dinner. This was her first official event as Miss World Africa. The dinner was held at Visun Royal Yacht Hotel in Sanya China.

Quiin was in the company of the new Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de Leon, who was clad in a strapless silk turquoise gown, while Quiin was donning a floral sweeping bottom dress on a top black lace.

The two beauty queens were joined by other continental winners that included; Miss Belarus, Miss Jamaica and Miss Thailand. Miss World Africa is still the talk of the town following a spirited fight she put up during the Miss World contest; she is now tipped to be the new Uganda Tourism Ambassador.

"When you run alone, we call it a race, but when you run with God, it’s called Grace," Those are Quiin Abenakyo’s words who finished third at the 68th Miss World Competition that was held in Sanya, China on Saturday.

True to her words that she uses to describe the moment, the journey to China alone was not an easy one considering that Quiin was one of the last contestants to arrive in China for the contest after soliciting for funds here and there to raise an air ticket as her parents Ssemberra Charles Kate and Alice Kyamuresire narrate her story;

"Just like any other person, we were happy for Quiin, but as a mother, I was worried for my daughter, because she was not an outgoing type of person and on getting to China, she called me saying that mom, I can’t handle, these girls are so pretty with neatly done hair extensions, they are so stunning, will I manage?"

"Be strong my daughter, beauty is not all about that, you will make it," Quiin’s mom told her. Quiin’s mother does not forget the difficulties they went through to raise funds for the air ticket and while on the plane, the now Miss World Africa broke down into tears, we all broke down and so was the pageant organizer, Brenda Nanyonjo, who was still trying to raise funds for her air ticket. Brenda told Quiin not to worry as she will be on the next plane the moment she was set to travel.

Quiin Abenakyo’s dad was equally worried;

"I was worried about the Miss Uganda pageant after what I had heard about it, but when they took us through the whole process, I was okay with it. My daughter is yet to graduate and I had wanted her to be an administrator, but with the new doors, I am positive things will work out, personally, I have never been to New York or Washington, but as for Quiin, she is all over and life will not be the same again. In February, she will be going back to the US, so parents out there, please support your children the moment you identify a talent."
