The rope pulling between government and the organizers of the Nyege-Nyege festival is over and the event is on as planned, it kicks off today.

This followed a meeting with the organizers and security authorities On September 5, 2018.

"Fellow countrymen, due to some compliance concerns on the part of the Nyege Nyege Festival organizers, I had made a pronouncement to stop  the festival. After consultation, intra government and security agencies as well as discussions with the event organizers, we have now found a middle ground that takes into account the concerns of government as well as those of the organizers."

"I now, therefore, take the opportunity to inform the public that the event is now cleared to proceed subject to the guidelines and conditions we have agreed upon with the organizers..." Hon. Rev. Fr. Simon Lokodo, the Minister for Ethics and Integrity stated in a press statement.

The conditions include:

  • No under 18's after 6:00pm,
  • Accreditation at the venue to be done by the Uganda Police,
  • Police will have unfettered access to the venue and all the facilities used by the organizers anytime of the day or night,
