A significant delegation from the United Kingdom has concluded a successful visit to Uganda, reinforcing the growing tourism partnership between the two nations. The group, headed by Laurence Robertson, CEO of the Westminster Africa Business Association (WABA), engaged in fruitful discussions with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) on February 16, 2026, near the Source of the Nile in Jinja.

Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations through sustainable tourism initiatives, developing adventure tourism products, attracting infrastructure investment, and fostering community-driven growth. WABA’s CEO, Laurence Robertson, described the meeting as exceptionally productive and pledged to promote Uganda’s unique attractions and world-class adventures to UK investors, tour operators, businesses, and travelers.

Juliana Kagwa, CEO of UTB, emphasized the strategic importance of the visit, stating it highlights growing international confidence in Uganda’s tourism offerings. She noted the aim to forge lasting partnerships that promote responsible tourism, drive economic growth, and solidify Uganda’s standing as a leader in adventure and nature-based travel.

Uganda’s tourism sector has demonstrated remarkable recovery and growth. In 2024, the country welcomed approximately 1.37 million international visitors, a notable increase from the previous year, with tourism receipts reaching a record US$1.28 billion. The sector plays a vital role in Uganda’s economy, contributing significantly to exports and employment.

This engagement aligns with UTB’s objective to target premium markets like the UK, promote responsible tourism, and attract investments that protect the nation’s heritage while delivering socio-economic benefits. The positive momentum generated is expected to further strengthen UK-Uganda collaboration in tourism and related industries, positioning Uganda as the “Pearl of Africa” for adventure and nature tourism.
