A delegation from the United Kingdom, headed by Laurence Robertson, CEO of the Westminster Africa Business Association (WABA), recently held a productive meeting with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) in Jinja. The discussions centered on boosting trade, investment, and tourism between the two nations.
UTB CEO Juliana Kagwa and former Board Chairperson Hon. Daudi Migereko engaged with the UK representatives on February 16, 2026, exploring avenues for sustainable tourism, adventure product development, and community-led growth. Laurence Robertson expressed optimism, pledging to promote Uganda’s attractions to UK investors and travelers upon his return.
Kagwa emphasized the visit’s significance in showcasing Uganda’s unique tourism potential and forging partnerships for responsible travel and economic growth. She highlighted Uganda’s rising tourism sector, which welcomed approximately 1.37 million international visitors in 2024, generating a record US$1.28 billion in receipts and contributing significantly to the nation’s GDP and employment.
The meeting aligns with UTB’s strategy to target premium markets like the UK, promote responsible tourism, and attract investments that benefit both the economy and the preservation of Uganda’s natural and cultural heritage.
This collaboration is expected to further solidify tourism relations between the UK and Uganda, reinforcing the country’s image as a premier destination for adventure and nature-based travel.
