Uganda recently held a series of ambitious tourism roadshows across the BENELUX region (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg). Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), these events aimed to showcase Uganda as a competitive and sustainable tourist destination.

The “Pearl of Africa” was presented to potential travelers and investors in cities like Utrecht, highlighting the country’s attractions. This effort is a key part of Uganda’s Economic and Commercial Diplomacy (ECD) strategy, designed to strengthen economic ties with Europe.

Officials emphasized that tourism is vital to Uganda’s economic growth. It contributes significantly to foreign exchange, job creation, and youth empowerment. These roadshows are structured to foster deeper partnerships and expand Uganda’s tourism reach in the European market.

The BENELUX region was targeted due to its strong outbound travel culture and a growing demand for authentic, nature-based, and sustainable travel experiences. Ugandan tour operators engaged directly with buyers from these nations, fostering business relationships expected to increase visitor numbers.

This initiative underscores Uganda’s commitment to competing in international tourism markets and ensuring that the “Pearl of Africa” gains greater visibility among high-value travelers. The focus on adventure, nature, and cultural tourism aligns with Uganda’s strengths and the interests of the European market.
