Manchester United’s interim coach Michael Carrick was left fuming after a controversial 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, highlighting glaring inconsistencies in penalty decisions.

With United ahead 2-1, Amad Diallo appeared to be fouled in the penalty area, but VAR ruled out sufficient contact for a spot-kick. Moments later, referee Stuart Attwell awarded Bournemouth a penalty following a challenge by Harry Maguire on Evanilson, which the defender conceded after earlier scoring via James Hill’s own goal.

Maguire was sent off, forcing United to defend with 10 men through over 10 minutes of added time. Carrick told BBC: ‘I think they’re both penalties… I don’t understand how you can give one and not the other, it’s crazy.’

Despite the chaos, Carrick praised his players’ resilience, noting their strong performance from the bench to secure the point. Bournemouth sit 10th on 42 points.

United head into the international break third in the standings on 55 points. Carrick, who took over in January after Ruben Amorim’s exit, remains confident, saying the team will be primed for Leeds United post-break.
