The Afro Exchange, backed by Johnnie Walker, creates a vibrant hub for Africa’s top talents in music, fashion, art, and digital storytelling. It fosters networking and cross-border projects to amplify the continent’s cultural voice.
Africa’s creative sectors are booming, with artists gaining international acclaim, yet many work in isolation. This initiative bridges those gaps, starting from events in Lagos and Johannesburg, and now reaching Uganda.
More than events, it’s a full cultural ecosystem with summits and showcases. Christine Kyokunda, Johnnie Walker East Africa brand manager, calls it a ‘cultural bridge’ inspired by the ‘Keep Walking’ ethos, empowering creators to shape Africa’s future.
At the December Creative Summit, Ugandan fashion star Santa Anzo urged designers to prioritize cultural impact over trends. Musician Joshua Baraka highlighted the grind of artistry, quipping about writing hits from Ibiza.
Kampala’s first Afro Exchange Takeover on April 12 promises live shows and installations fusing Ugandan and South African talents in music, fashion, art, and storytelling.
Experts see this as key to Africa’s creative boom, potentially hitting $200 billion in exports by 2030, or 4% of GDP, per Africa Global Connect Consultancy.
