Josephine Nakagolo emerged as the hero for Kawempe Muslim, netting a dramatic equalizer in the 87th minute and a winner deep into stoppage time to clinch a 2-1 away triumph over Amus College in Kachumbala on Saturday.
Amus took the lead early through Doreen Aujat, who capitalized on a loose ball, evaded defender Sharifah Nakimera, and beat goalkeeper Saidah Namwanje. The hosts dominated much of the match, putting table-topping Kawempe under severe pressure.
The comeback began when substitute Zainah Nambozo’s free-kick found Nakimera, whose cross caused chaos in the Amus box. Agnes Nabukenya flicked the ball off keeper Elizabeth Atieno into Nakagolo’s path for the 87th-minute leveler, despite offside protests from the home side.
In stoppage time, another Kawempe free-kick after Joyce Kayinza’s handball saw Samalie Nakacwa’s delivery converted by Nakagolo for the decisive goal. Frustrated Amus fans vented at referee John Baptist Tumuhaise post-match.
Kawempe played with added urgency, aware that rivals She Corporate had beaten Makerere University 2-1 earlier, with goals from Sandra Kisakye and Jesca Namanda. Kawempe now lead with 39 points from 16 games, ahead of She Corporate’s 38.
Amus hold sixth on 20 points. Elsewhere, Olila High School face sanctions for no-show against St. Noa Girls, while Kampala Queens thrashed Uganda Martyrs 2-0.
