Nathan L’Okori Adiyo, Father of Late Speaker Oulanyah, Dies at 97 on Son’s Death Anniversary

Nathan L’Okori Adiyo, the father of the late Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, former Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, died at the age of 97.

He passed away on Friday at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu City after being admitted two days prior due to respiratory issues.

This sad event coincides with the fourth anniversary of Oulanyah’s death on March 20, 2022, in the United States.

Speaker Anita Annet Among shared a condolence message on her X account, expressing deep sorrow and offering sympathies to the family, parliamentary colleagues, and all who knew Adiyo. She noted that funeral details would follow family consultations.

Prior to his death, Adiyo had been residing quietly at his son’s home in Ayom Lony village, Lalogi sub-county, Omoro district.

Oulanyah had served as Deputy Speaker from 2011 to 2021 before becoming the 11th Speaker of Parliament.
