A devastating road accident on the Kampala–Gulu highway in Luwero district left three people dead and eight others injured. The collision happened around 11:30 pm in Nkonde village, Nyimbwa sub-county, close to Kalule trading centre.

The vehicles involved were a Toyota Hiace taxi (UBR 333S) heading from Kampala to Amolatar district and a lorry (UBG 873K) carrying poles towards Kampala. According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima, the lorry driver caused the crash by trying to overtake a line of vehicles.

All fatalities and injuries occurred among taxi passengers, with three men dying at the scene. Police from Bombo station rushed the wounded to Mulago National Referral Hospital and Luwero Hospital, while the bodies went to Luwero mortuary for postmortems.

Twiineamazima called on drivers to be cautious during overtakes, respect speed limits, and follow safety rules on this route. This incident follows another fatal crash a week earlier in Luwero, where a Real Bus driver and conductor perished after hitting a truck.

The Luwero-Nakasongola stretch has seen many accidents lately, blamed on reckless and drunk driving plus narrow roads. Luwero’s 2024/25 health report notes 475 motorcycle crash admissions, 21 deaths, and 13 fatalities from 181 other road accidents.
