Indian Businessman Detained Over Hit-and-Run Death of Bugwere High School Cook

A Ugandan businessman of Indian origin has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run incident that killed Robert Wamani, a 42-year-old cook at Bugwere High School in Budaka District. Police in Budaka District arrested Rabadiya Sandeep Ramji, a 41-year-old Indian national and site supervisor at Hariom Establishment Ltd, after a deadly road accident on March 21, 2026.

The crash happened around 2pm at Nansanga Kubiri along the Mbale-Tirinyi Road, claiming the life of Robert Wamani, a cook at Bugwere High School from Bukomba Village in Lyama Town Council.

Wamani died instantly when struck by the speeding vehicle, registered as UBE 858Y, which was heading from Mbale to Kampala, according to Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa.

The driver fled but was stopped at Tirinyi checkpoint and is now in custody at Budaka Police Station under cases TSD 05/21/03/26 and TAR 18/26.

Speeding is the suspected cause. Budaka Traffic Officer AIP Talunga Topista documented the scene, Wamani’s body is at Budaka Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem, and the vehicle is at Tirinyi Police Station for inspection.
