A tragic accident struck Ngogolo village in Butuntumula sub-county, Luwero district, around 5:00 am on Sunday. A trailer with registration SSD 908A and SSD 909A, heading from Gulu to Kampala, detached and veered off the Kampala–Gulu highway, ramming into a residential house.

The victims killed on the spot were 38-year-old Annet Nandhose and her daughter, three-year-old Doreen Nakkazi. Annet’s husband, Samuel Kigwe, and teenager Jovan Kalule sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima confirmed the trailer crashed into the building while the family slept, resulting in two deaths and two injuries. The bodies were taken to Luwero hospital mortuary for postmortem, and the truck was towed to Luwero Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.

This marks the second fatal crash in Luwero within two days. On Friday night, a head-on collision at Nkonde village near Kalule trading centre claimed three lives and injured eight, involving a Toyota Hiace (UBR 333S) and a lorry (UBG 873K).

The Luwero-Nakasongola stretch has seen frequent deadly accidents lately, blamed on reckless driving, drunk driving, faulty vehicles, and narrow roads. The 2024/25 Luwero District Health report notes 21 deaths from 475 motorcycle crash admissions and 13 fatalities from 181 other road accidents.
