Preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are advancing in Uganda, with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) initiating inspections of hotel facilities in the Bunyoro Sub-region. Hoima City, a designated host city, will house teams competing at the recently opened Hoima Stadium, commissioned by President Museveni.

The inspections kicked off on Monday, led by Rogers Byamukama Araali, FUFA’s marketing executive. The team began at Miika Eco Resort Hotel in Hoima City, checking key aspects like room capacity, cleanliness, security, location, and service quality to align with CAF requirements.

Byamukama emphasized the need for facilities to match global standards, ensuring comfort for players, officials, and visitors. ‘AFCON is a major event, so we must select hotels that exceed expectations,’ he stated.

Harrison Musing, Bunyoro sports association chair, highlighted that quality accommodation is vital for player performance. The team examined guest rooms, dining areas, conference spaces, and recreational facilities, also assessing proximity to the stadium and utility reliability.

Hoima’s hospitality sector has boomed thanks to oil and gas activities, with new hotels emerging. Local leaders and hotelier Wakisa James welcomed the checks, seeing them as a boost for business and regional visibility.

Inspections will continue across Hoima and nearby areas, with recommendations and improvement advice for subpar facilities to prepare for the tournament.
