Recent attacks on schools in Uganda have left communities reeling. In Ggaba’s Early Childhood Development Centre in Kampala, four young children lost their lives. In Apac district, seven students at Apac Seed Secondary School suffered injuries during a brutal assault.

Dr. Robin Nandy, UNICEF Representative to Uganda, voiced deep shock and sadness over these incidents. He extended condolences to the affected families and stressed that schools must serve as safe havens for learning and growth.

“Every child in Uganda has the fundamental right to learn, play, and grow in environments that are safe and protective,” Nandy stated. He condemned the violence targeting innocent children and demanded urgent action to prevent schools from becoming targets.

UNICEF is stepping in with immediate psychosocial support for traumatized children, families, and school communities. The organization pledges collaboration with the Government of Uganda, local authorities, and the Ministry of Education and Sports to strengthen child protection systems nationwide.

These efforts aim to ensure all children can access education safely and with dignity, turning national grief into decisive prevention.
