Authorities in Masaka City are investigating a devastating fire that razed the boys’ dormitory at Kisoso Parents Primary School in Kimanya Kabonera Division on April 10, 2026.
Southern Region Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed that the fire brigade acted swiftly to extinguish the flames, preventing damage to other structures. No lives were lost, though students’ belongings were completely destroyed.
The incident is believed to have started from a short circuit in the school’s solar power system, which operates alongside the main grid. Investigations continue to establish the exact cause.
An anonymous teacher revealed that the pupils were attending evening prep sessions outside the dormitory when the fire erupted, ensuring their safety.
Nationwide statistics from the 2025 police report highlight the prevalence of such incidents, with 1,310 fire cases recorded, including 492 linked to electricity and 86 to candles. Kampala recorded the highest at 264 cases.
