Three Killed, Two Wounded in Ethnic Clash in Adjumani District

Three Killed, Two Wounded in Ethnic Clash in Adjumani District

A violent incident unfolded on Friday, April 10, 2026, around 2:30pm in Rubangabini Village, Ofu East, Okusijoni sub-county, Adjumani District. Assailants armed with bows, arrows, and pangas targeted members of the Madi community.

Three victims lost their lives: Abiria Annah, 48, and Unzia Susan, 56, both from Acimari East, Ewafa, Lugara community in Obongi District, and Mamawi Carolino, 64, from Onyire Afoji, Moyo District. The latter’s body remains unrecovered in the bush due to dense terrain.

Two others were injured, including Moroga Pastore, 50, a farmer from Iyiri Village, Maji Parish. The second injured person’s details are pending. Both received treatment at Adjumani Hospital.

North West Nile Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea reported that suspects fled into Zoka forest. Local army responded but arrived too late. Five armed individuals were detained for questioning.

Police visited the scene with the Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer, opening cases of murder and attempted murder (Ref: Adj CPS CRB 191/2026). Two bodies were taken to Adjumani General Hospital for postmortem.

A search resumes Saturday for the missing body. Authorities appealed to Acholi and Madi communities and leaders to foster peace and reconciliation.
