Faith serves as more than spiritual comfort in Kampala’s suburbs and surrounding towns—it’s becoming a launchpad for economic independence. However, young people, particularly women, face hurdles in converting belief into steady income, as noted in the 2024 State of Entrepreneurship in Uganda report. Women’s micro-businesses lag with low scores in registration, tech use, and market access.

The Tu Es Belle Foundation, launched three years ago in Nansana, Wakiso District, bridges this gap. Co-founded by Agnes Faith Namugere and Esther Ntwatwa Namukwaya during their studies at Uganda Christian University, it mixes prayer with practical aid like skills training, seed funding, and employment links.

Beneficiary Flavia Muwawu Nakayiki, once jobless, secured work at a cleaning firm before launching her bag and perfume venture. The group also covered her son’s medical needs. Similarly, Charity Nshabohurirra shifted from idleness to running a produce stall, funding her kids’ schooling after receiving startup capital.

The foundation’s reach includes institutions like Wamala Skilling Centre, where it supplied computers for training 75 students in fashion, design, and hairdressing. Coordinator Morris Godfrey Kakooza, who joined amid personal loss, now leads aid for orphans and vulnerable families.

Inspired by personal traumas and family values, Tu Es Belle—meaning ‘you are beautiful’—affirms worth while aiding women, single mothers, the elderly, and children. It supports around 50 church members and 100 in the community, embodying grassroots solutions amid Uganda’s informal sector struggles.
