Armed warriors carried out two robberies in Kotido District on Friday night, looting cash and merchandise from local shops.
In Kotido municipality, robbers took Shs500,000 along with unspecified merchandise. In Panyangara trading centre, they raided shops, assaulted residents, and fled with stolen items.
Mt Moroto region police spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed the groups were heavily armed. Joint security teams have ramped up patrols and called on the public to share information on suspicious behavior.
This marks a new trend, as warriors previously hit truck drivers on the Kotido-Kaabong road in February. Longole stressed hiding valuables from raiders and noted that Karamoja’s overall security is stable.
