Tarmacking Upgrades Lubugumu-Busabala Road in Makindye Ssabagabo
Residents and motorists in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality are celebrating the near completion of tarmacking works on the Lubugumu-Busabala road, transforming a once dusty and muddy route plagued by rainy season vehicle stuckages into a smooth all-weather path. The project, finished six months ahead of schedule by China First Highway Engineering Company, has boosted local businesses and eased transport. Residents, traders, and drivers along the Lubugumu-Busabala road in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality have welcomed the recent tarmacking that has overhauled the troublesome route.
Previously, heavy rains turned the road into a quagmire, trapping vehicles in trenches and forcing motorists to pay local youths Shs5,000 to Shs10,000 for assistance. Dry seasons brought thick dust that dirtied clothes and hurt roadside commerce.
“Wearing white clothes was impossible; they’d turn brown by journey’s end,” one local noted.
Last year, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipal Council awarded China First Highway Engineering Company (CFHEC) the contract under the ‘Construction of Selected Roads in Makindye Ssabagabo and Entebbe Municipalities, Lot 1.’ This includes Lubugumu-Busabala Links 1, 2, and 3 (totaling 4km) plus Lubugumu-Kakora (1km).
Nine months in, the roads show dramatic improvement, completed six months early. Food vendor Stella Nakacwa said dust had driven away customers from her chips stall, but now business is rebounding.
Boda boda rider Joseph Musila praised CFHEC’s efforts, while sociologist Ihunde Jacklyn from the firm called the community collaboration rewarding.
Municipal officials commended the contractor for speedy work, community engagement, and job creation. The upgrades promise better transport, lower costs, and business growth.
