A wave of deadly road accidents has struck the Busoga Sub-region, claiming at least ten lives in Kamuli and Buyende districts over recent days. The crashes involved sugarcane trucks, taxis, and motorcycles, highlighting ongoing safety risks on local roads.

On April 12, a Tata lorry (UAW 966U) collided with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UEZ 966W) at Kabugudo along the Bukungu–Kamuli Road in Buyende District. Five people died, including one-year-old Kayiriko, four-year-old Rahiya Nanjeso, 24-year-old Dennis Pande, and six-year-old Mirab Nabayigwa. Witnesses reported a steering failure caused the lorry to veer out of control.

Local residents and leaders, like Rogers Magino from Nkondo Sub-county, demanded stricter checks on heavy trucks, especially those carrying sugarcane, warning of more tragedies without intervention.

Earlier, on April 13 near Mbulamuti on the Jinja–Kamuli Highway, a taxi (UAY 420/W) hit two motorcycles, killing one rider blamed for reckless behavior while carrying onions.

On April 10 in Bulunda Village along Kamuli–Namasagali Road, a Fuso sugarcane truck overturned onto a motorcycle after a tyre burst, killing rider Grace Mudumba and passengers Lydia Nanzala (38), Stephen Makayi (40), and Charles Balinaine (42).

Police urged drivers to avoid overloading, speeding, and reckless moves, emphasizing regular maintenance for vehicles on narrow rural roads. Uganda recorded 5,383 road deaths in 2025, averaging 15 per day.
