Chief Justice Flavian Zeija issued a stern warning during a meeting with stakeholders at the Kabale High Court on Kikungiri Hill in Kabale Municipality. He stated that without a land title by year’s end, the court would be relocated, as local leaders have failed to formalize ownership.

The issue dates back over a decade when Kabale District Council allocated part of its land for the court, which was handed over in 2017. However, subdivision and title transfer remain pending, leading to repeated queries from the Auditor General.

“We cannot keep responding to these audit issues due to local incompetence,” Zeija emphasized, demanding an end to the queries.

Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner Michael Kyakashari promised to work with district leaders and council to produce a minute extract enabling the title transfer, urging against relocation.

In addition, Zeija announced plans to recruit more judicial officers next financial year to activate courts in every district as magisterial areas. He called for better prison collaboration on plea bargaining and greater religious leader involvement in mediation.
