Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is rallying his squad with calls for ‘pure fire’ ahead of their Champions League quarter-final return leg against Sporting on Wednesday. The Gunners hold a slim 1-0 advantage and are aiming for a first-ever Champions League triumph, alongside a Premier League title not won in 22 years.

Recent disappointments have narrowed Arsenal’s trophy hopes to these two fronts after losses to Manchester City in the League Cup final and Championship outfit Southampton in the FA Cup quarters. Despite a recent 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth that let City cut the Premier League lead to six points, Arteta insists his team is fueled by ambition.

“What we’re chasing is tough and full of challenges, but that’s expected,” Arteta remarked. He highlighted their unprecedented three straight quarter-final appearances in the competition, stressing the need for greater hunger to advance.

Arteta remained tight-lipped on team updates, especially midfielder Declan Rice who skipped training. Possible returns for Bukayo Saka or Jurrien Timber are uncertain, with final calls pending. “No fear—just pure fire from players, fans, and me,” he urged, eyeing April’s big opportunities.
