A significant delegation of Chinese investors recently toured Wagagai Gold Mines, Uganda’s largest gold mining and refining facility. Located in Busia, near the Kenyan border, the mine represents a substantial investment in Uganda’s mineral sector.
Ambassador Oliver Wonekha to China joined the investors, who received a comprehensive briefing from the General Manager, Lee. The briefing detailed the project’s development and its ambitious production targets, aiming for 1.2 tonnes of refined gold annually.
The Wagagai Gold Mines project is already a major contributor to local development, having generated over 2,000 jobs for Ugandans. Furthermore, it has facilitated skills development through training programs for more than 700 local technical staff, underscoring a mutually beneficial partnership.
