The High Court in Uganda heard testimony linking prime suspect Christopher Okello Onyum to a car rental just before the tragic knife attack at a Ggaba daycare that claimed four toddlers’ lives.

Hashim Juma, a 33-year-old director at Trip Car Rental Uganda, served as the eighth prosecution witness. He described how Okello first inquired about car hire services on March 12, 2026, via WhatsApp using an American phone number (+15713282409) and occasionally a local MTN line (0769582620).

Okello attempted to collect a car on March 13 at Freedom City but left before Juma arrived after a 40-minute delay. He messaged on March 14 apologizing for rushing off and later confirmed a two-day rental for April 1 and 2 on March 31.

That evening around 8pm, Juma delivered the vehicle to Okello’s location in Kyanja, guided by a Google pin. Okello opened the gate, and under rain, provided his American passport and driving license, which Juma photographed as per procedure.

Prosecutors used this account from Juma to establish a precise timeline leading up to the gruesome daycare killings.
