In the ongoing Ggaba murder trial, Hashim Juma, director of Trip Car Rental, testified that Christopher Okello Onyuk appeared sober-minded and capable when arranging to hire a car in March.

Under examination by Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya, Juma recounted WhatsApp messages starting March 12, where Okello requested a vehicle for three days in Kampala, preferring self-drive. He inquired about procedures, pricing, and options like a Toyota Rav4 or Noah.

Juma noted Okello’s follow-ups, including calls, rescheduling after an initial delay, and thanks for patience. “These are normal client inquiries,” he said, confirming the chats reflected their interactions.

During cross-examination by defence lawyer Richard Kumbuga, Juma admitted lacking formal qualifications to assess mental states. On re-examination, he explained his view: “A mad person cannot go onto the internet and look for a service or transact,” citing needs for ID, finances, and a driving licence.

Judge Alice Komuhangi Khaukha questioned if cars are rented without licence checks; Juma confirmed they are not.

The trial continues tomorrow.
