Security Guard Nabbed for Stealing Shs29m and 900g Gold from Kampala Business
A security guard from Magnum Security Company has been arrested for allegedly stealing Shs29 million and 900 grams of gold from a vehicle at Goldex Uganda Limited in Kampala. A security guard identified as Akena Justine has been arrested over the theft of Shs29 million and 900 grams of gold from a motor vehicle owned by Maggie Katuramu.
Akena, employed by Magnum Security Company, was assigned to protect the premises of Goldex Uganda Limited on Mawanda Road in Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire revealed that after the theft, Akena locked the premises and fled.
On April 15, 2026, at around 10:30pm, officers apprehended him in Gaspa Village, Bweyale Town Council, Kiryandongo District.
During questioning, Akena confessed to the crime. Investigations showed he had invested part of the stolen cash in opening a retail shop, which led to his capture.
He is detained at Mawanda Road Police Station while probes continue ahead of court charges.
