Hoima Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded 38-year-old taxi driver Tom Mugabirwe to Kiryatete Government Prison on Friday. He faces five charges stemming from a fatal crash on April 4, 2026, along the Hoima–Fort Portal Road in Butyamba Village, Kikuube District.
Mugabirwe, from Busiisi West Cell in Hoima West Division, allegedly drove a white Toyota Hiace (UBQ 853E) recklessly at around 8:20 p.m. The charges include two counts of causing death by reckless driving—for Peter Banura, known as “Kona,” the Kikuube LC5 Chairperson, and Atuhairwe Mary Gorret—two counts of causing bodily injury to Safina Atulinda (19) and Asinguza Businge (24), plus failing to report the accident.
Before Chief Magistrate George Kunihira, Mugabirwe denied all charges, repeatedly stating “It is not true.” His bail application was rejected for now, with a hearing set for April 28, 2026.
