A respected journalist, Joe Nam, 55, lost his life in a brazen attack at his home in Kawanda Central, Nabweru Division, Wakiso District, around 1am on Sunday.

The former New Vision reporter, known for his coverage of business, environment, and politics, had stepped outside for prayers when an unidentified gunman opened fire. Nam’s wife rushed out after hearing the shots but found him already deceased. Police arrived shortly after but could not save him.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the suspect wore a mask and escaped immediately. “Preliminary information indicates that an unidentified armed assailant shot and killed him,” Owoyesigyire stated.

Investigators are combing the crime scene for evidence, with Nam’s body transported to Mulago Hospital mortuary for postmortem. Efforts focus on identifying the firearm used and uncovering the motive behind the killing. Since retiring, Nam had been engaged in consultancy work.
