South Sudanese Refugee Dragged from Home and Killed in Yumbe's Bidibidi Settlement

Police in Yumbe District have launched an investigation into the brutal killing of 35-year-old South Sudanese refugee Charles Boni in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement.
The attack happened around 3:00am on April 19, 2026, in Village 18, Block 18, Zone 5. Boni and his wife were inside their home when unknown individuals knocked on the door.
When Boni opened it, he was grabbed, dragged outside, and assaulted by about six men using sticks, suffering fatal head injuries. His wife witnessed one attacker carrying a pistol; the group also stole her phone before escaping.
Despite her cries for help, no neighbors responded. Officers from Yumbe Police Station secured the scene, documented statements, and registered case Yumbe CRB 178/2026.
Investigators found Boni’s body in a pool of blood with severe head trauma and recovered a live pistol round. The body was moved to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
The motive is unknown, and police are calling for public tips to assist the probe. This incident highlights ongoing security issues in West Nile, a region noted for high homicide rates in the Uganda Police Force’s 2025 Annual Crime Report.
