Justice Forum (JEEMA) officials have paid tribute to Kalangala Woman MP Helen Nakimuli, who passed away on April 19, 2026, following surgery at a Kampala medical centre. Her death has intensified discussions on Uganda’s struggling healthcare system, especially the pattern of public figures travelling abroad for treatment.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s Mengo headquarters, JEEMA spokesperson Dr Swaib Kaggwa Nsereko described Nakimuli as a bold advocate for ethical leadership and justice in public service. He emphasised her standout commitment amid widespread ethical challenges.

Dr Nsereko called on the government to view her passing as a wake-up call, pushing for immediate upgrades in medical facilities, staffing, and public trust in domestic health services. He pointed out that leaders’ reliance on foreign care signals deep issues, leaving ordinary Ugandans without viable options.

‘No citizen should die due to poor local care, and no leader should seek treatment dignity abroad,’ he stated, urging Ugandans to perpetuate her legacy of integrity, accountability, and service.

Nakimuli, also Shadow Minister for Information and Anti-Corruption, will be buried on April 23, 2026. Her body has been transported from Mulago Hospital mortuary to Kalangala for public viewing, with a district council session held in her honour. It will return to Kampala via Masaka for further tributes, including at Parliament, NUP headquarters, and a vigil at her Namungoona home. The funeral service is set for Namungoona Orthodox Church, followed by burial in Luwero District.
