Patience Ahumuza, 30, who works as a PR, Communications, and Marketing Manager, has never desired to have children. This conviction dates back to her early twenties when she sought a tubal ligation at a clinic but was turned away over concerns about future partners.

Ahumuza treasures her independence and love for solitude. She thrives in quiet spaces, moving at her own pace without compromise. Parenting, she argues, demands unwavering daily presence with no assurances of success or protection from life’s challenges.

She points out the disproportionate load on women in child-rearing, where men can often disengage yet retain ties to the child. Ahumuza values her freedom to work extensively, travel, or retreat to the village unencumbered.

Support comes from child-free friends and her mother, who prioritizes her happiness. Online criticism, mainly from men, and medical bias—where doctors push pregnancy over other options—pose the main hurdles.

In dating, she discloses her stance early to avoid mismatches. Her resolve strengthens with age; she adores children, including her nieces and nephews, but believes only fully committed homes suit them.

Challenging stereotypes of selfishness or future regret, Ahumuza advocates for informed choices and supportive communities. She prefers the risk of childless regret over failing to provide a deserving life.
