Dut Matiop Chol, a 15-year-old South Sudanese refugee living in Block E, Cluster 5 of Nyumanzi Settlement in Adjumani, died from severe head injuries during a gang confrontation on Friday evening.
The violence erupted around 8:00 pm between members of the Clean Heart Niggas—affiliated with Black Warriors—and the 44 Slime Gang Group. North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea confirmed the boy belonged to Clean Heart Niggas.
Suspects armed with pangas stolen from a nearby trading centre attacked the victim in what police believe was revenge for a gang member’s killing in January. He suffered multiple cuts and died instantly at the scene.
Vice-Chairperson of the camp, Elizabeth Akuol, reported the fight after receiving a call about disturbances in Block C. Police quickly secured the area for forensic examination, and the body was moved to Adjumani Hospital mortuary by Medical Teams International.
The attackers fled, and authorities are appealing for public information to apprehend the 44 Slime Gang members. SP Asea condemned revenge attacks and pledged collaboration with the community for safety.
