Arsenal halted their poor run of form by defeating Newcastle United 1-0 at home, with Eberechi Eze scoring a brilliant goal in the 10th minute. This result propelled Mikel Arteta’s team back to the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners had lost their lead after consecutive defeats to Bournemouth and Manchester City, the latter knocking them off the summit for the first time since October. Despite the win, Arsenal’s display was laboured and tense against a struggling Newcastle side.

Nervousness filled the stadium, highlighted by Yoane Wissa’s missed late chance for the visitors. Arsenal now sit on 73 points from 34 matches, ahead of Manchester City who have 70 points from 33 games and were occupied with an FA Cup semi-final.

Newcastle’s fourth successive league defeat dropped them to 14th place, increasing pressure on manager Eddie Howe.
