President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lauded the deep-rooted collaboration between the government and the Church, recognizing its crucial role in Uganda’s journey towards socio-economic transformation.
Speaking at the dedication of the Life Restoration Ministries sanctuary in Nansana-Bujjuko, President Museveni, represented by the Minister of State for Economic Monitoring, Hon. Beatrice Akello Akori, acknowledged that while the Church’s primary role is spiritual, its involvement in development projects significantly enhances community well-being.
He urged religious leaders to remind their congregations of their earthly responsibilities, drawing a parallel with Jesus Christ, who balanced spiritual teachings with his work as a carpenter. The President stressed the importance of encouraging believers to participate in income-generating activities to eradicate poverty and achieve wealth creation at the household level.
The NRM government, he stated, has laid a strong foundation for development through investments in essential services like electricity, roads, schools, and healthcare. However, Museveni emphasized that true development requires active participation from all, urging the remaining 33% of households in subsistence farming to join the money economy.
He identified commercial agriculture, industrialization, services, and ICT as key sectors for wealth and job creation, calling on leaders to mobilize communities towards productive ventures in these areas.
The President commended Pastor Kenneth Kato Mwesigwa for leading the initiative to build the new sanctuary and also thanked Pastor Robert Kayanja for his efforts in spreading the gospel and fostering good relations between Pentecostal churches and the government. President Museveni contributed Shs30 million towards the project.
In response, Pastor Mwesigwa expressed gratitude for the government’s support and the freedom of worship in Uganda. He highlighted the church’s commitment to community outreach, youth empowerment, and charitable initiatives beyond spiritual nourishment.
The event, which included prayers and musical performances, underscored the harmonious relationship between faith-based institutions and the government in advancing Uganda’s progress.
