Kizito Mukalazi, the founder of Hormisdallen Nursery and Primary Schools, died on April 24, 2026, at Kampala Hospital at age 71 following a long illness. His farewell service took place at Christianity Focus Centre in Kisenyi, Kampala, on April 27.

His widow, Ritah, shared that Mukalazi was profoundly prayerful, often spending 30 days at Prayer Mountain on Entebbe Road before Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) to pray for his pupils’ success. The family credits this practice with the schools’ consistent strong performance. Once, he extended his stay to 40 days in worship.

Ritah described how he rose at 2am daily for prayers and planning, ticking off completed tasks. Even during illness, he attended church services, kneeling to pray despite weakness. In his final hospital days, he continued his prayer routine.

Pastor Cindy Kigganda recalled Mukalazi’s last overnight prayer session, where he appeared unwell but only requested prayers. Bishop David Kiganda praised him as a hardworking, prayerful entrepreneur who attended Bible classes and served the church.

Hasadu Kirabira of the National Private Educational Institutions Association noted Mukalazi as a pioneer in private education, starting before the 1993 liberalization, alongside figures like Lawrence Mukiibi.

Hormisdallen began in Kamwokya in 1986 and expanded to Gayaza, Kyebando, and Bweyogerere-Kirinya. He will be buried in Kagembe, Semuto, Nakaseke District. Dr. Joyce Kaducu, State Minister for Primary Education, hailed him as a visionary whose contributions to education will be missed.

Headteacher Robert Semakula remembered Mukalazi’s humility, systematic approach, and focus on quality education.
