Vincent Matovu, the Mengo County chief for Kyaggwe and director of Our Lady of Africa, Namilyango (OLAN), delivered a stern warning to university and tertiary students during a thanksgiving mass in Mukono on April 26.

He criticized the notion that entering higher education grants freedom to date and relax, pointing out that many disciplined secondary school graduates turn into ‘hooligans’ at university.

‘No one will force you to attend lectures or complete coursework, but failure will be your own fault,’ Matovu stated, emphasizing personal responsibility.

Matovu also urged parents to scrutinize their children’s online content, blaming smartphones and the internet for societal immorality spikes, calling the internet ‘a devil’ despite phones being essential.

He encouraged OLAN alumni to pursue leadership roles in their institutions, noting that many national leaders started young.

Rev. Fr. Achilles Wandera, the main celebrant, preached humility, condemned mischief, and praised the school’s holistic education. He advised students to shun drugs and counsel peers against them.

The event celebrated top 2025 A-level results, with 10 of over 300 students scoring perfect 20 points, each receiving Shs2 million and a plaque.
