Six Worshippers Killed in Sheema by Speeding Toyota Fielder

Tragedy struck on Saturday morning along the Mbarara-Bushenyi highway at Rushara, Kabwohe in Sheema municipality. A black Toyota Fielder, registration UA 702DL, traveling from Mbarara towards Bushenyi, plowed into a group of worshippers crossing the road.

The victims had just left overnight prayers at St. Rose Catholic Church in Rukinga, Kabingo. Greater Bushenyi regional police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa named the deceased as Dinavance Komugisha (47), Jane Rose Kobusigye (69), Precious Ampereza (12), Editor Komugisha (40), Harriet Asiimwe (57), and Grace Narmara (27).

Two others, Bruno Bimanyamukama (16) and Vicky Amanya (13), suffered injuries and were taken to ICOBI hospital. Eyewitness Selevio Mukasa, a boda boda rider, reported that the driver was speeding and did not brake in time.

Preliminary investigations by police indicate speeding as the primary cause. Authorities have initiated a search for the at-large driver, with the deceased’s bodies moved to Kabwohe Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem.
