Kibet's Strong Second Place at Bengaluru 10K Thrills Coach Kipsiro, Nakaayi Shines in Nairobi

Ugandan athlete Harbert Kibet delivered an impressive performance at the Bengaluru 10K in India, clinching second place with a time of 27:39, just eight seconds behind Burundi’s Rodrigue Kwizera who set a new course record of 27:31.
Moses Kipsiro, the three-time Commonwealth champion turned coach, expressed delight over Kibet’s surge from third to second in the final 400 meters. ‘I am happy he did well,’ Kipsiro said, noting Kibet’s recent win at the Castellon 10K in 26:39. The coach aims to prepare him for the Commonwealth Games.
Fellow Ugandans Dan Kibet placed eighth in 27:56 after fading from fifth, while Dolphin Chelimo finished 12th in 28:21. In the women’s race, Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru won in 30:45, with Esther Chebet tenth in 32:08 and Sarah Chelangat 15th in 32:35 after an injury.
At the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Halimah Nakaayi, the 2019 800m world champion, took third in the 1500m with 4:09.66. ‘I felt proud to be among the top 3,’ she said after her tactical sprint in the last 100m. Knight Aciru finished seventh in 4:12.81.
Other Ugandan results included David Kipyeko (14th, 10,000m), Sam Sombu Yeko (15th, 10,000m), and Haron Adoli (4th, 400m at Botswana Grand Prix).
