Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has secured his future at Old Trafford with a new contract running until 2031. The announcement came on Thursday, highlighting the 21-year-old’s resurgence after struggling under ex-manager Ruben Amorim.
An academy product, Mainoo has featured in 98 senior games for United, netting seven goals and providing five assists. He starred in England’s Euro 2024 final and scored in the FA Cup triumph over Manchester City that year.
Early in the season, Mainoo was mostly a substitute under Amorim, appearing 11 times from the bench in the Premier League before the Portuguese’s January dismissal. Under new boss Michael Carrick, he has started 12 of the last 13 league matches, sitting out only the Leeds United clash due to injury.
In a club statement, Mainoo expressed his passion: ‘I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt. I have the privilege of living my dream every single day.’
Third-placed United face Liverpool on Sunday, where a victory would lock in Champions League football next season.
