15-Year-Old Boy Arrested in Oyam for Father's Death in Phone Dispute

Authorities in Oyam District arrested a 15-year-old boy, Ambrose Oyet, for the alleged murder of his father, Simon Okeng, aged 49, from Zaire Village in Myene Parish.
The fatal incident unfolded on April 29, 2026, amid a domestic argument over a mobile phone. Okeng suspected the device held money he was awaiting and demanded it from his son, sparking a heated exchange.
During the confrontation, the teenager reportedly grabbed a piece of wood and hit his father multiple times on the head, causing him to collapse. Okeng’s wife, who saw the event, tried to get him to a clinic, but he passed away on the way.
A local resident, Santo Okodi, alerted Minakulu Town Council Police Station. Community leaders captured the suspect and turned him over to officers.
North Kyoga police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema noted that a murder by assault case is filed. Homicide detectives processed the scene, gathered witness statements, and took the body to Anyeke Health Centre IV for postmortem. The boy remains in custody as probes continue.
