Residents of the Lango sub-region, spanning districts such as Amolatar, Alebtong, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Kwania, Lira, Otuke, Oyam, and Lira City, showed massive support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the January 15, 2026 general elections. They gave the NRM candidate 84.49% of votes, with Lira City topping at 85%.
President Museveni visited on April 18 to express gratitude, announcing plans to boost development through the Parish Development Model (PDM). This includes allocating funds to parishes for household enterprises and a new scheme for free coffee and fruit seedlings to diversify farming.
Museveni stressed agricultural innovation, noting activities like sheep rearing under PDM, alongside Emyooga, restocking, road works, and anti-corruption efforts. He promised better health, education, and power access once household incomes rise.
Local leaders echoed these priorities. Dokolo North MP Joseph Jones Ogwal is pushing the ‘four-acre model,’ farmer training, poultry vaccination, and millet revival via the Kal Yen Project for 300 farmers. He also eyes youth skilling in agriculture and aquaculture, plus electricity to cut post-harvest losses.
Lira City Woman MP Dr. Jane Aceng Ocero linked the vote to trust in government services. MPs highlighted needs like more coffee seedlings, an airport in Lira, and an industrial park at Aler Farm to spur growth.
Community officers confirm programs like Youth Livelihood Programme and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Project are active, though some beneficiaries underreport gains.
