Buffaloes sit atop the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership standings with 39 points, just ahead of Pirates (37), Kobs (36), and Heathens (31) in a fiercely contested race for the title.
Initially seen as dark horses alongside Walukuba Barbarians, Buffaloes have exceeded expectations thanks to their lethal attacking trio: Daniel Otim (8 tries), Moses Watmon (7), and Aaron Tukei (7), the league’s leading scorers. Their Sevens rugby background has honed their ability to capitalize on broken play.
Coach Charles Onen credits national team exposure for their edge, but warns of lessons from recent Sevens setbacks where they faltered under pressure. “We must stay alert, consistent, and never take any opponent lightly,” he emphasized.
This weekend, Buffaloes face Victoria Sharks at Kyadondo, where Sharks’ Allan Olango (6 tries) and Humphrey Asiligwa (65 points from kicks) pose threats through forward power and territorial play. A win could mathematically secure their lead over Heathens.
Walukuba struggles against Heathens at Kyadondo, hampered by flyhalf Gift Wokorach’s dip to a 51.11% goal success rate. Heathens, powered by captain Aaron Ofoyrwoth’s recent tries and assists, aim to climb.
Hippos host Pirates at Ruck Yard in a rematch of last year’s final, pitting Alex Aturinda’s scoring form against Jinja’s Brian Luseka and Hassan Gidudu. Other matches include Kobs vs. Mongers, Rhinos vs. Warriors, and Impis vs. Kakira Simbas.
Women’s fixtures feature Nile Rapids vs. Avengers, Panthers vs. She Wolves, and Ewes vs. Thunderbirds.
