Kapeeka Industrial Park in Nakaseke district is undergoing a significant transformation led by the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA). Originally established 20 years ago as Liao Shen Industrial Park, it currently operates 34 out of 80 planned factories, generating 31,000 direct and indirect jobs.
UIA Director General Robert Mukiza stated that full development will create 200,000 jobs in the district. The park will become a one-stop center, offering services like work permits, business registration, URA processes, and NEMA certifications on-site, eliminating the need for investors to travel to Kampala.
The initiative also focuses on fostering small and medium-scale industries to supply larger factories. For instance, components like car seats, windows, and locks could be produced locally to support major manufacturers. Factories at the park produce items such as concrete products, agricultural goods, food, electrical appliances, shoes, and fishnets.
Spanning 1,600 acres—previously used for cassava and maize farming—the park was co-founded by General Salim Saleh, brother of President Yoweri Museveni, and Mr. Liao Shen. The latter highlighted over $6 million invested in agricultural support, including maize seeds, shellers, pesticides, and customized fertilizers for local farmers.
Minister for Kampala Minsa Kabanda urged investors to expand opportunities into other districts.
