Seroma Christian School in Mukono put on a spectacular show as the 2026 Ball Games I got its official opening at Seroma Stadium on Friday. Though matches began on April 28, the formal ceremony on day two pulled in thousands of athletes, officials, and spectators to Kyetume, highlighting the massive event with more than 7,000 competitors in 11 sports.

The games are jointly hosted by Namilyango College alongside Hilton High, Seeta High, Uganda Christian University, and Bishop’s Secondary School. Retired Bishop of Kampala Diocese, Dr. Hannington Mutebi, led the proceedings and symbolically kicked off the tournament. He shared how sports aided his recovery from leukemia after a 2018 bone marrow transplant, stressing discipline and integrity alongside physical benefits.

“Sport builds life skills and well-being,” Mutebi noted, urging participants to let their character shine as much as their talent.

Seroma’s Resident Director Amelia Kyambadde celebrated the school’s expansion from nine acres in 2003 to 139 today, enabling such large-scale events. She mentioned upcoming swimming competitions in October and confirmed Seroma is handling football, basketball, volleyball, and racket sports.

A total of 428 teams reached the finals, with top performers eyeing spots at the FEASSSA Games in Tanzania this August and possibly the FISU Games for U-17 players. USSSA representative Harriet Apolot praised the championship for talent development.

The ceremony included acrobatics and traditional dances, followed by an exciting opener where hosts Seroma drew 2-2 with St Charles Lwanga SS Kasasa in football. Ruth Wanyonyi scored early for Seroma, but Kasasa equalized before halftime and led briefly until Regina Lemukol’s late free-kick leveled it.

The tournament continues until May 8 across various Mukono venues.
