Police in Yumbe district, northern Uganda, have launched an investigation into the death of Poni Islam, a 54-year-old Bangladeshi resident of Lomunga town council.
Islam worked for WKK Company, involved in the Yumbe–Terego tarmac road project. His body was found on May 2 around 7:00 a.m. at Ruvanna Inn Bar and Lodges.
Lodge staff grew concerned when calls to his room, named ‘Lisbo,’ went unanswered. Waitress Jane heard the phone ringing nonstop and alerted cashier Lillian Obiru, who notified manager Jamirah Racheal.
The manager found the door slightly ajar. Upon entering, they discovered Islam lying motionless on the bed. Watchman Cesar confirmed he appeared dead, and police were immediately notified.
Homicide officers from Yumbe Central Police Station inspected the scene. The body was moved to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem. Islam had checked in on May 1.
North West Nile police spokesperson Collins Asea stated investigations continue, with a public appeal for cooperation.
