Residents of Bisaka Village in Kitimbwa Sub-county, Uganda, are in shock following the discovery of a teacher’s body buried in her husband’s garden.
Fred Anyire, 53, allegedly strangled his wife Magadeline Ntegeka, 32, a teacher at Pick Hill Primary School, after she reportedly denied him sex for three months. The couple, who lived together for four years and had one child, had ongoing domestic disputes.
Suspicion arose when Ntegeka vanished. Neighbors noticed her absence while the couple’s three children—aged 10, 12, and 14—were away at their aunt’s. Anyire claimed she had gone to Hoima to care for her sick mother, but her phone was off, and he grew hostile when pressed.
A tip from a traditional healer, whom Anyire approached to capture his wife’s spirit, led locals to alert police. Officers arrested him, and residents exhumed Ntegeka’s body from a shallow grave in the garden, marked by a banana plant. A postmortem at Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital confirmed strangulation as the cause of death.
Local leaders like Nakivubo Parish councillor Moses Ochongoli and Bisaka Village LC1 chairperson Sylivester Kamali identified the parties involved. Police are now investigating the disappearance of Anyire’s first wife, Irene Namulindwa, missing for seven years, with searches in the garden so far unsuccessful.
Ssezibwa regional police spokesperson Hellen Butoto confirmed the arrest, stating murder charges will follow once inquiries conclude.
