Landslide Claims Lives of Two Teens in Kisoro, Grandparents Injured

A tragic landslide struck Nyabiyonga Village in Kihumba Parish, Murora Sub-County, Kisoro District, on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two young girls and injuries to their elderly grandparents.

The victims who lost their lives were identified as 14-year-old Brenda Musoni and 12-year-old Esari Mujawimana. They reportedly suffocated after the mudslide partially buried the house where they were sleeping.

Their grandparents, 70-year-old Benon Mulema and 60-year-old Avelina Mbabonye, sustained injuries but survived. They are currently receiving medical attention at Chahafi Health Centre.

Kigezi region police spokesperson, Mr. Elly Maate, confirmed that the bodies were recovered with assistance from local residents.

This incident highlights the dangers of landslides in the region, especially during adverse weather conditions.
