Police in Mbale City are investigating a violent stabbing incident at Snap Lounge bar and restaurant on Bufumbo Road. The attack involved a group of women and left 23-year-old businesswoman Zura Tugonza with severe chest injuries. She was rushed to Mbale General Clinic for treatment.

One suspect, Shadia Nambozo, has been arrested and is in custody. Elgon Regional Police spokesperson Rogers Taitika stated that her accomplices remain at large and will face attempted murder charges once apprehended.

The bar was cordoned off as a crime scene and closed for two days before reopening on Saturday. Police are reviewing security footage and collecting statements to determine the motive, which is still unknown.

Taitika highlighted security lapses, noting that management failed to report the incident promptly or assist the victim. The bar manager, Emma, denied the stabbing happened inside, claiming it occurred on the road and rejecting accusations of allowing weapons on premises.

This incident adds to Mbale’s history of violent crimes, including past stabbings and other attacks in the city.
