The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has launched preparations for primaries to select its candidate for the Kikuube District Chairperson by-election on June 10. This follows the tragic road accident death of incumbent Peter Banura on April 4 along the Hoima-Fort Portal Road.
NRM Electoral Commissioner Jane Alisemera Babiha announced that the process started on April 29, with aspiring candidates able to submit expressions of interest until May 6. Nominations will occur on May 7-8 at the party headquarters in Kampala.
On May 9, the campaign schedule will be finalized at the district party office in Kikuube, with joint campaigns running from May 10 to 20. Voter register updates are set for May 11-17 at village level, culminating in polling and results announcement on May 22.
Candidates must pay a non-refundable Shs1 million fee, submit a letter of interest, academic documents, and an updated CV to the commission chairperson. Voting will use a lining-up method, open to all NRM members on the district’s voters register.
The commission urged aspirants to avoid premature campaigning and adhere strictly to the timeline for a peaceful process. Banura, 48, had been re-elected in February for a second term before his untimely passing.
